How the solar calculator works

The calculator compares your current bill with what a correctly sized solar system would produce in Perth. It uses typical Perth output of about 1,382 kWh per kilowatt of panels a year, Synergy’s Home Plan A1 rate of 33.26c per kWh, and the DEBS buyback of 10c per kWh from 3pm to 9pm and 2c at other times (rates from 1 July 2026). The result is an estimate, not a quote.

What changes your result

  • When you use power. Solar you use at home saves 33.26c per kWh. Solar you export in the middle of the day earns only 2c, so daytime use matters more than system size.
  • Your roof. North-facing roofs produce the most. East and west roofs work well for morning and evening use. Shade from trees or a second storey lowers output.
  • Your connection. Under Western Power’s rules for Perth, single-phase homes can generate up to 15 kVA and three-phase homes 8 kVA per phase. Exports are limited to 1.5 kW, or up to 5 kW with a retailer agreement.
  • A battery. A battery stores daytime solar for the evening peak, when power costs the most.

Typical system sizes for Perth homes

System sizeAverage daily outputEstimated installed price (after STC discount)
6.6 kWAbout 25 kWh$5,000–$7,500
10 kWAbout 38 kWh$8,000–$11,000
13 kWAbout 49 kWh$10,000–$14,000

As a rough guide, these are what most Perth homes pay in 2026. Your price depends on your roof, your phase and the panels and inverter you choose. Read more in our guides to choosing a system size, solar payback in Perth and solar and battery prices, or get a free, fixed quote.

Solar calculator FAQs

Is the calculator result a quote?

No. It is an estimate based on your bill and typical Perth solar output. Your actual system size and price come from a free site assessment and a fixed quote.

Why does the calculator use a 60-day billing cycle?

Synergy bills most Perth homes every two months, so entering the figures from one bill gives the calculator about 60 days of usage to work from.

Does the estimate include a battery?

The calculator estimates solar savings. A battery adds evening savings and can qualify for the WA Residential Battery Scheme (up to $1,300 for Synergy customers) and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries program.

How much power does a solar system produce in Perth?

Each kilowatt of panels produces about 1,382 kWh a year in Perth, or around 3.8 kWh a day on average. A 6.6 kW system averages about 25 kWh a day, and a 10 kW system about 38 kWh a day.
