Sungrow Batteries and Inverters in Perth 2026: SBR, Hybrid Range and Who They Suit
Sungrow has become one of the most widely installed brands in Australia, and it occupies a genuinely useful position in the market: close to premium performance, without the premium price.
For a lot of Perth homes it is the sensible middle answer. Here is what it does well, what it does not, and who should choose it.

The SBR battery — modular, and that matters
The Sungrow SBR is a stackable modular battery. Rather than buying one fixed-capacity unit, you install a number of modules and can add more later.
That design has real consequences for a Perth household:
You can start smaller and expand. Battery sizing is genuinely hard to get right up front, because it depends on consumption patterns most people have never examined. Modularity means an undersized decision is correctable rather than permanent.
It suits staged budgets. Install what you can afford now, expand when the budget allows or when your load grows — an EV, a pool, a home extension.
It is high-voltage. High-voltage battery architecture is generally more efficient than low-voltage in round-trip terms, meaning slightly more of what you store comes back out.
The numbers: SBR modules are 3.2 kWh each, stacking in 3.2 kWh increments to a maximum of 25.6 kWh. Chemistry is lithium iron phosphate (LFP). Each module is IP55 rated, weighs 33 kg, and supports 30 A continuous charge and discharge.
Usable capacity is 100% of nominal — an unusually clean spec. Many batteries quote a nominal figure and a lower usable one; with the SBR the number you are quoted is the number you get.
The trade-off: modular stacks take more wall space than an equivalent all-in-one unit, and expansion later is generally best done with modules from the same production family. Ask about module compatibility if staged expansion is your plan.
Sungrow hybrid inverters
Sungrow’s hybrid inverters handle solar and battery on one unit, and pair natively with the SBR. Buying both from one manufacturer removes an entire category of compatibility risk and gives you a single point of contact for warranty.
The single-phase SH-RS range covers roughly 5 kW to 10 kW. The SH5.0RS and SH6RS carry two MPPT trackers; the SH10RS has four, which is a genuine advantage on a Perth roof with multiple orientations — more MPPTs means more independent roof faces handled without loss. Peak efficiency sits around 97.5–98%.
Backup capability is built in. The SH10RS provides full backup switching in 10 milliseconds, fast enough that most household electronics will not notice the transition. Confirm at quote stage which circuits are backed up and whether additional switching equipment is required.
Who Sungrow suits
Homes that want battery capacity without Tesla pricing. This is the core case. You get high-voltage modular storage, strong local support and a well-proven product, generally below Powerwall pricing.
Households unsure how much storage they need. The modularity genuinely de-risks the decision.
Anyone planning staged expansion. Adding an EV in two years, extending the house, installing a pool.
Homes wanting a single-brand system. Sungrow inverter plus Sungrow battery is a clean, well-integrated package with one warranty contact.
Who it does not suit
You want the simplest possible install. An all-in-one unit like the Powerwall 3 is a single box. A modular stack is several. If wall space is tight or you want minimum visual impact, that matters.
You want maximum single-unit power output. Compare continuous and peak output figures against your actual requirements — particularly if you intend to run air conditioning or a pool pump during a grid outage.

Warranty and support
SBR battery: 10 years, with a performance guarantee of at least 70% of original capacity at the end of the term.
SH-RS hybrid inverters: 10 years parts and labour.
That inverter warranty is worth pausing on. Ten years covering both parts and labour, with no registration requirement, is stronger than several premium-tier competitors — Fronius’s headline 10 years is 5 standard plus 5 on registration, with a repair fee applying in years 6–10. On warranty terms specifically, Sungrow is ahead of brands that cost more.

WA Battery Scheme eligibility — how it actually works
This is more specific than most guides make it sound, and getting it wrong costs you the rebate.
There is no single "WA Battery Scheme approved products list." Eligibility runs off the Synergy Supported Solutions List (or the Horizon Power Supported Solutions List if you are outside the SWIS). Those lists are built on the Clean Energy Council approved product list plus each utility’s own technical requirements — so a battery can be CEC-approved and still not qualify in your area.
The core requirements:
- Minimum 5 kWh storage capacity
- The battery must be VPP-capable — able to connect to the grid and respond to signals
- It must appear on your distributor’s Supported Solutions List
- An ongoing internet connection, with regular testing
- Participation in a virtual power plant is mandatory, through Synergy or Horizon Power Community Wave

One further change to be aware of: from 1 May 2026, new and upgraded rooftop solar and battery systems in the SWIS must meet new minimum technical standards under Western Power’s WEM Procedure for Standard Small User Facilities.
Sungrow is among the brands commonly listed as qualifying, and the SBR is VPP-capable and well above the 5 kWh minimum.

Choose it if you want proven storage with room to grow. Choose a Powerwall 3 if you want the simplest possible installation. Choose SolaX if the budget is the binding constraint.
