Sigenergy SigenStor in Perth 2026: Specs, DC EV Charging and the Recall, Explained

Sigenergy is the most-searched battery brand in Perth that most local installers still can’t quote you on. Around 720 people a month look it up in this state alone, and the reason is the SigenStor’s architecture — it does something genuinely different from a Tesla Powerwall or a Sungrow SBR.

What makes the SigenStor different

Most home batteries are one box that stores energy, paired with a separate inverter. The SigenStor combines five functions in one stack: battery, hybrid inverter, battery management system, energy management system, and an optional DC EV charger.

That last one is the part worth understanding, because it is rare.

Most EV charging is AC. Your solar produces DC, the inverter converts it to AC, and your car’s onboard charger converts it back to DC to fill the battery. Two conversions, and losses at each.

The SigenStor can charge the car directly from DC. Fewer conversions, less loss, and considerably faster — the optional DC charger runs up to 25 kW, several times what a standard 7 kW AC wall charger delivers.

It is also V2H and V2G ready — vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid. In principle that lets your car’s battery power the house, which for most EVs is a far larger store than any home battery. The regulatory framework for V2G in WA is still developing, so treat this as future capability rather than something you will use on day one.

The numbers

Battery modules: 5.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 kWh. Stack up to six modules — 48 kWh, which is well beyond what most homes need and into small-commercial territory. DC-DC optimisers on each module maintain performance as the stack grows.

Inverter: single-phase 3 kW to 12 kW; three-phase 5 kW to 30 kW.

Round-trip efficiency: up to 98.4% — among the highest available.

Chemistry: LiFePO₄ (LFP), with an integrated fire suppression system.

Rating: IP66 weatherproof, so outdoor mounting is straightforward.

Warranty: 10 years, covering the whole system rather than battery and inverter separately.

That whole-system warranty is a real advantage. With a separate battery and inverter you can end up between two manufacturers arguing about whose component failed. One warranty, one contact, removes that.

The 2025 recall — the straight version

You will find this in your research, so here it is properly.

On 19 November 2025, Sigenergy issued a voluntary electrical safety recall in Australia. The specifics matter:

What was affected: single-phase 8, 10 and 12 kW energy controllers with quick-connect AC plugs requiring ferrules and crimping, sold in Australia between 4 March and late November 2025.

What was not affected: the battery modules. The fault was in an AC connection design, not in the cells or the battery chemistry. This was not a thermal-runaway or cell-defect issue.

The risk: affected AC plugs could overheat and become damaged, creating a fire risk.

What Sigenergy did:

  1. Pushed a firmware update that temporarily reduces AC output if a unit runs at sustained full load, preventing the plug overheating
  2. Free replacement product with a redesigned AC plug, arranged through the retailer or a Sigenergy Australia service partner
  3. Added two years of warranty on affected products

No injuries or property damage were reported.

Our honest read: a recall is never good news, but this is close to a model response — narrow scope, correctly identified cause, immediate mitigation, free remedy, and compensation on top. A manufacturer that finds a connector fault and acts on it inspires more confidence than one that never reports anything.

Who the SigenStor suits

EV owners, especially two-car households. This is the strongest case by a distance. The DC charging capability is the SigenStor’s genuine differentiator, and if you are charging an EV regularly the efficiency gain is real and recurring.

Homes wanting one system rather than four. Battery, inverter, management and EV charging in a single stack, on one warranty, from one manufacturer.

Larger or high-consumption homes. With modules to 48 kWh and three-phase inverters to 30 kW, it scales past where most residential batteries stop — useful for homes with a pool, ducted air conditioning and two EVs.

Anyone planning to grow into it. Start with one 5 kWh module and add as budget or load increases.

Who it does not suit

No EV, and none planned. The DC charging capability is the main reason to choose this over a Sungrow SBR or a Powerwall 3. Without it, you are paying for architecture you will not use — and one of the alternatives will likely serve you better for less.

You want the longest local track record. Sigenergy is a newer entrant than Tesla, Fronius or Sungrow. The technology is impressive; the decade of Australian field data does not exist yet. If proven longevity is your top priority, that is a legitimate reason to choose differently.

Simple, small requirement. For a modest home with straightforward needs, a single Powerwall 3 or a small Sungrow stack is less system than you need to think about.

WA Battery Scheme eligibility

Battery rebates in WA are not governed by a single scheme-wide product list. Eligibility runs off the Synergy Supported Solutions List, or the Horizon Power Supported Solutions List if you are outside the SWIS. Those are built on the Clean Energy Council approved product list plus each utility’s own technical requirements, so a battery can be CEC-approved and still not qualify in your area.

The requirements: minimum 5 kWh capacity, the battery must be VPP-capable, it must appear on your distributor’s list, and it needs an ongoing internet connection with regular testing.

Also worth knowing: from 1 May 2026, new and upgraded rooftop solar and battery systems in the SWIS must meet new minimum technical standards under Western Power’s WEM Procedure for Standard Small User Facilities.

Rebate amounts are currently up to $1,300 for Synergy customers and $3,800 for Horizon Power customers.

Confirm the specific SigenStor configuration appears on your distributor’s current Supported Solutions List at quoting stage — these lists are updated regularly and we check per job.

Installation notes for Perth

Outdoor mounting is fine. The IP66 rating means it does not need a garage. Still avoid full western sun where practical — heat shortens the life of any power electronics.

Three-phase opens up more. If you have three-phase supply, the inverter range extends to 30 kW and your export allowance changes, which affects sensible system sizing.

Plan the EV charger from the start. Retrofitting the DC charger later is possible but costs more than specifying it up front. If an EV is anywhere in your five-year plan, factor it in now.

The short version

The SigenStor is the right choice if you own or plan to own an electric vehicle. DC charging at up to 25 kW, V2H and V2G readiness, and 98.4% round-trip efficiency in a single integrated stack is capability nothing else on our list offers.

Without an EV, the case is much weaker, and a Powerwall 3 or Sungrow SBR will likely serve you better for less.

The 2025 recall was narrow, did not involve the battery modules, and was handled well. It is not a reason to avoid the product in 2026.
