What is the Tesla Powerwall 3?
The Powerwall 3 is a home battery with a solar inverter built in. One wall-mounted unit stores 13.5 kWh and converts power from your solar panels. That is the big change from the Powerwall 2, which needed a separate solar inverter.

Two points matter for buyers. First, the 13.5 kWh capacity is the same as the Powerwall 2. The upgrade is power and the built-in inverter, not storage. Second, the 11.04 kW output is enough to start and run large loads such as a ducted air conditioner, provided the system is set up for whole-home backup.

Why online Powerwall prices vary so much
Searches for “Tesla Powerwall 3 price Australia” return very different numbers. Some show the unit only, some show prices after rebates in other states, and some leave out the Backup Gateway or switchboard work. Compare installed prices that list the same parts. And check which rebates have actually been applied, because the WA rebate does not apply to a Powerwall 3 on Synergy.
Does the Powerwall 3 get the WA battery rebate?
No, not for Synergy customers at present. To get the WA Residential Battery Scheme rebate, the battery must be listed for battery storage on Synergy’s Supported Solutions List. On the list updated 1 October 2026, every Powerwall 3 entry is listed for solar generation only, with no battery storage listing. So Perth metro households lose the rebate of up to $1,300.

Horizon Power customers (rebate up to $3,800) should check Horizon Power’s own list, because we have not confirmed the Powerwall 3’s status there.
The federal discount still applies
The Powerwall 3 can still get the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program discount. It is paid as small-scale technology certificates (STCs): about 6.8 STCs per kWh for the first 14 kWh of usable capacity until 31 December 2026. For a 13.5 kWh Powerwall 3, that is roughly 92 STCs, or about $3,500 off at current STC prices. The rate falls to 5.7 STCs per kWh on 1 January 2027, so the same battery will get less after that date.

How does the Powerwall 3 suit Perth homes?
It suits single-phase Perth homes that want strong blackout backup and are installing solar and a battery together. It is a weaker fit for three-phase homes, for homes that want the WA rebate, and for buyers who want the lowest cost per kWh. Four Perth factors decide it.
1. Synergy tariffs reward self-use
Synergy’s DEBS buyback pays 10c/kWh from 3pm to 9pm and 2c/kWh at other times. Grid power on the Home Plan (A1) costs 33.26c/kWh. Each kWh of solar you store and use at night is worth far more than exporting it. On the Midday Saver plan, power costs 55.33c/kWh from 3pm to 9pm, so a battery that covers the evening peak saves even more. The Tesla app supports time-based control, so the battery can be set to discharge in the expensive evening window.
2. Perth heat
The Powerwall 3 uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and is rated to run from −20°C to 50°C. Tesla notes that output may be reduced above 40°C. Perth summers regularly pass 40°C, so placement matters. A shaded, ventilated wall (south-facing or under cover) is better than a west wall in full afternoon sun. The battery and power electronics are rated IP67, so outdoor mounting is allowed.
3. Single phase or three phase
Tesla lists the Powerwall 3 as a single-phase unit. Many newer and larger Perth homes have three-phase power. A single-phase battery on a three-phase home usually backs up only some circuits. If your home is three-phase, ask exactly which circuits stay on in a blackout before you buy.

A double-storey home with three-phase power, a pool pump, ducted air conditioning and an EV planned. A single-phase Powerwall 3 would usually back up only part of this house.
